Impact in the Community

Over the last few weeks, Impact Air Systems, has welcomed students from the Leicestershire Secondary Education and Inclusion Partnerships, to its head office for Impact’s Managing Director’s to conduct mock job interviews in a bid to prepare them for the next phase of their working life.

Numerous students were interviewed in realistic interview scenarios to give them a taste of what to expect when it comes to the ‘real thing’.

Nick Ball, Impact’s Managing Director, said “I was impressed by the students efforts and confidence in a situation which can be pretty daunting. It was our pleasure to be able to assist them in gaining life skills and important preparation for their working life. We wish them the best of luck in their future endeavours”.

Impact Technical Services, our service and maintenance division, has launched an awareness campaign to support a solar project in Kenya, after donating two simple toolkits and seeing how they are being used to transform a community in an initiative designed to improve the quality of life for thousands of people.

The team at Impact were approached by Dr Jon Cloke, Network Manager for the UK Low Carbon Energy for Development Network in the Geography Department at Loughborough University, who asked for support to kickstart a major solar project in Kenya.

The solar project involved building two solar hubs in two very poor communities in Kenya that were without electricity (Lemolo B and Echareria), to supply household lighting through a distributed battery system. It is currently supporting 50 families in each village, but has the potential to change the lives of over 2,000 residents.

Dr Jon Cloke, National Network Manager at Loughborough University expresses his gratitidue for Impact’s donation:

“It is no word of an exaggeration to say that the toolkits donated by Impact were vital to the project, and without them, building the solar hubs would have been very difficult, if not impossible.

Tony Bosworth, Operations Director at Impact said:

“It’s so important that as an industry, we work together to offer support for such major projects which change the lives of many – that is why we are spreading the word and asking organisations that are in a positon to offer their aid, to act fast and show their support.”

The solar hub is also providing power for income-earning opportunities, such as incubators, grain-milling, a barber’s shop, etc. to help the community raise its standard of living, and thus become self-sustaining.

We have been supporting local schools with their Aspirations/Welcome to the world of work studies to give children aged 10-12 an insight into the world of work with an engineering spin.

The students have been extremely enthusiastic, well mannered and polite on their visits to Impact, where they have been given a fun and interesting presentation by Impact’s Managing Directors, Nick and Vicky Ball, and a tour of the building, including offices, warehouse and test facility.

The students were introduced to various staff members throughout the company and their roles were explained to them as well as daily tasks that they are expected to carry out.

Nick Ball carried out numerous material separation trials at the Test Facility to demonstrate to the students how valuable material from the waste stream can be recovered, reducing the amount ending in landfill.

We have been supporting Blaby Bullets FC and Oadby Owls FC for the past five seasons and we’ve been impressed to see how the teams have progressed and achieved outstanding results in this time.

Grassroots teams often face difficulties when it comes to funding new kits and equipment etc every season, so we are always very keen to get involved and support local teams in the community.

Nick Ball, Impact’s MD says “These local teams are a fantastic example of grassroots clubs with a real community spirit. It’s important that we support local teams to help them create the best possible experience for young aspiring players.”

Impact supports the following local charities: The Harley Staples Children’s Cancer Trust, Bodie Hodges Foundation, LOROS, Help For Heroes and the Hot Water Bottle Network, Leicester.

These charities work tirelessly to raise funds for those less fortunate than ourselves and we endeavour to support them where we can.
