Plastic Bags and Film Collection Solution

Our customer are specialists in machinery handling and mechanical services for the laundry industry and required a solution for flexible plastic packaging collection from its waste stream. They contacted Impact Air Systems about the possibility of having a system installed that would collect plastic refuse bags, which are used to transport bed linen and similar laundered garments, as part of a brand new facility being built. The ideal solution to suit this customers’ requirement is the Impact Film Vacuum system.

Typically, industrial laundry is collected and transported to the laundry facility in plastic bags or sacks. Garments from hospitality venues such as hotels or spas, through to healthcare facilities and many other sectors, are handled this way.

When unloading into the laundry process, the plastic transport bags are typically discarded by the operators into waste cages around the laundry room. Impact’s solution allows plastic bags to be collected and then conveyed away, saving valuable floor space as well as increasing productivity and recycling rates.

For this customer, Impact’s Film Vacuum solution consists of three collection hoods located at the primary unloading point and a further six collection hoods located in the garment sorting and quality control areas of the laundry room. The hoods are designed to allow operatives to feed emptied plastic bags into the capture hood as they unload the linen and garment contents.

The collected plastic waste is then transported away from the laundry rooms to a dedicated waste handling area, where the plastic is removed from the airflow and
compacted into manageable sausage like bales, for removal from site and recycling. All exhaust air is fully cleaned using the latest filtration technology before leaving the building.
